COAT: Original desirable coat is double-coated with hard, wiry, outer coat and soft undercoat. Coat length sufficient to determine texture and density; clean and well-groomed; trimming unnecessary, but acceptable if adequately left on head, neck, ears, chest, tail, and front legs. Hair should not be overly soft or silky, but will not be the hard outer coat if clipped, which is acceptable.

Miniature Schnauzers are intelligent and learn quickly. Many have excelled in formal obedience trials and in agility competitions.
Miniature Schnauzers are eligible to participate in Earthdog trials and some excel at them. There is also a newer dog sport called Barn Hunt that is right up their alley!
